Riz Ahmed Helps His Wife, Fatima Farheen Mirza, Fix Her Hair at Oscars

July 2024 · 2 minute read

Riz Ahmed is making history tonight at the Academy Awards. He's also making us swoon as he plays the role of Best Husband Ever on the red carpet.

Ahmed is nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of a drummer who loses his hearing in Sound of Metal. The British-Pakistani actor's nomination marks the first time in Oscars history that a Muslim nominee has been nominated for the Best Actor trophy.

While it still remains to be seen if Ahmed will take home an Academy Award tonight, he's already a winner in the Cutest Red Carpet Moment category. While posing for photos on the Oscars' red carpet at Union Station in Los Angeles with his wife, Fatima Farheen Mirza, the actor asked photogs to give him a second to do something very important—help his wife fix her hair.

"I'm the official groomer," Ahmed joked.

Variety caught the certifiably adorable moment on film and it's definitely worth a watch (or twelve).

Ahmed and Mirza married in an under-the-radar ceremony sometime in 2020.

"I guess because we live in a social media age, if you don't get on the megaphone about stuff, it's like it's a secret? But I never know how much is oversharing," Ahmed said of the low-key nuptials during an interview on The Tonight Show.

"It was kind of interesting, doing it with COVID and everything going on, obviously kept it super intimate and socially distanced. It was just hardly anyone there, did it in a backyard, which was nice in lots of ways. I think the nicest thing about it was, you didn't have 500 aunties hanging around you, pinching your cheeks. No disrespect to the aunties, but Asian weddings are big, and you've always got these people crawling out of the woodwork."
